Helambu trek is a relatively low-altitude and easy trek. Helambu is criss-crossed by trails running between villages. The trek starts from Sundarijal and ends in Melamchipul Bazaar. Sundarijal is very close to the Kathmandu Valley. The trail from Sundarijal climbs up directly following the concrete path alongside a large black metal pipe that supplies water to Kathmandu Valley.
It is considered as an enjoyable and exciting journey engrossed in the beauty of the Himalayas. You’ll enjoy the excellent views of mountain ranges including Langtang, Annapurna, Manaslu and even Everest on a clear day. You’ll also pass through the village of different ethnic groups - Brahmins, Tamangs and Sherpas. Helambu trekking offers a low altitude walk through the Tamang and Sherpa villages, a cultural opportunity of interacting with high altitude unique culture and tradition. The prime attraction of this trekking is the Sherpa village of Tarke Ghyang, charming cooperative farmers and Yak herders, green valleys, rhododendron forests and snowy peaks.
The Helambu trail is almost a circular one - through Khtumsang, Tharapati, Tarkeghyang, sarmathang and lastly to Melamchi pul where travelers can take bus to Kathmandu. |
