The Bhairav Kunda trekking symbolizes a spiritual journey , as it fills with culture and religion. This amazing 14-days trek starts from the Kathmandu valley and after a brief sightseeing trip, you will proceed to Jalbire. This Newar settlement will amaze you with its culture. You will further walk past Newar and Tamang settlements and into the dense forests that are beaming with life. After a brief ascent, you will reach the Bhairav Kund lake. This lake stands out as an oasis of life in the barren hills. Relish at the culture here and capture the delightful image of mountains which include the Langtang mountain range and Rolwaling range.
To make Bhairav Kunda trekking, you need to have an adequate level of strength and endurance as some parts of the trek can be challenging. Experiencing this trek in its full grandeur is alarming in between October to mid-December.
Bhairav Kunda Trekking
Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel.
Today is the day that you arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal. Our representative will be there at the airport to pick you up and he will be holding the company’s signboard. He will transfer you to your hotel and along the way, you shall learn about the contents of the trip. Once at the hotel, you can freshen up and explore Thamel and Lazimpat. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 02: Half day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu.
Today we won’t do any sort of heavy trekking but we shall take a quick sightseeing tour which covers up the major UNESCO world heritage sites of the Kathmandu valley. We shall take a moment to visit Pashupatinath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath, and Swoyambhunath. These sites are symbolic as to the cultural existence of the Kathmandu valley. After quick sightseeing, we shall get our permits and necessary documents sorted. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Jalbire (1000m) Drive by Bus about 4-5 hours
Wake up early and get on a private vehicle that takes you to Jalbire. The drive lasts for at least 5 hours and it shows you the beauty of a Nepali highway. Once you reach Jalbire, you can admire the cultural and natural melodrama. Jalbire is a Newari village and there is a temple dedicated to Lord Bishnu. The temple lies on the banks of the Balephi river. At the lodge, you can rest and prepare for the upcoming trek. Overnight in Jalbire.
Day 04: Trek to Chanaute (1,350m) 4hours walk.
On the 4th day, we begin our journey towards Chanaute. The trail from today sees a sudden increase in elevation and we can see dense forests and shrubs along the way. The road greets us with amazing pictures of waterfalls and some miniature Tamang settlements. The culture here is something to admire. After walking for 5 hours, we reach Chanaute, which is a village inhabited by the Chhetri and Tamang people. Overnight in Chanaute.
Day 05: Trek to Khani Gaon (2000m). 6 hours walk
The road to Khani Gaon sees a sudden increase in elevation and the trail also starts to become steep and dangerous. We need to walk on landslide-prone trails. As we walk ahead, we can observe spectacular views of the nearby streams and rivers. Khani Gaon is a village which is inhabited by Newars. As per history, the residents of Bhaktapur lived here to escape the war. Overnight in Khani Gaon.
Day 06: At Khani Gaon – Rest day
To prepare ourselves for the long and hard trek that lie ahead, we need to rest and acclimatize properly in the high altitude. Today is a day of acclimatization and we can do so by exploring Khani Gaon. The Newars in this region have a culture that is similar to the Newars living in Bhaktapur. Spend some time here to learn about their culture and traditions and be sure to get appropriate rest. Overnight in Khani Gaon.
Day 07: Trek to Forest Camp (3,150m). 6-7 hours walk
The trail from today goes much deeper into the wilderness. Our journey takes us deep into the forests filled with rhododendron and oak. As we walk along the forested trails, we can see beautiful birds and animals. After 5 hours of trekking, we arrive at Forest Camp which is a small clearing made in the middle of the forest. There aren’t many settlements here so there is a separate appeal to it. Overnight in Forest Camp.
Day 08: Trek to Pati (3,765m). 5 hours walk
The trail sees a further increase in elevation and you need to climb for at least 5 hours. The road to Pati is filled with enchanting views of the Langtang mountain ranges and green hills. Pati is the final stop before Bhairav Kunda. People trekking to Pati take rest here. There is not much traffic here so you can enjoy your stay without disturbances. Overnight in Pati.
Day 09: Trek to Bhairav Kunda (4,250m) 3 hours walk
Today we shall reach the major highlight of this trek which is the Bhairav Kunda Lake. The initial phase of the trek sees a steep uphill path which later transforms into flat parts. The Bhairav Kunda lake is named after Lord Bhairav, who is the incarnation of Lord Shiva. The lake stands out in the bland environment as an oasis of life. The lake is a religious site and during June and July, people visit here to take the blessings of the lord. Overnight in Bhairav Kunda.
Day 10: At Bhairav Kunda for a local hike.
The majority of the day will not be spent on hiking ahead but the day will be spent on exploring the Bhairav Kunda lake. You can circumambulate around the lake and interact with the locals residing there to get a deep insight into their life, culture, and traditions. The people here are of Tamang community and their culture is a bit different than ours. Overnight in Bhairav Kunda.
Day 11: Trek to Sherpa Gaon (2,500m) 6-7 hours walk
The road to Sherpa gaon initiates a bit early. This is done to observe the sunlight that illuminates the mountain ranges like Langtang, Jugal Himal, and Rolwaling. We can even catch glimpses of the Tibetan plateau. As we move ahead, we are now greeted by the people of the Sherpa community. This village is an ideal place to witness the amazing Sherpa culture and traditions. Overnight in Sherpa Gaon.
Day 12: Trek to Larche (1,500m). 5 hours
The trek is nearing its end and we shall head to Larche to make it official. We shall walk on the farther banks of the Bhote Koshi river and after walking for at least 5 hours, we reach Larche. We shall take a quick detour to visit the Tatopani hot springs in Kodari. The hot springs here are believed to possess healing properties. Spend the night in Larche with a chilled beer to celebrate the end of this trip. Overnight in Larche.
Day 13: From Larche drive back to Kathmandu by bus. bus 5-6 hours
After having breakfast in Larche, we shall get on a public bus and drive back to Kathmandu. The drive takes us along the Araniko highway and takes about 4 hours. Once you reach Kathmandu, you will head back to your hotel. Spend the remaining day by exploring Kathmandu. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 14: Transfer to Airport for the International departure.
Today is the last day that you will spend in Nepal. Our representative will take the responsibility of dropping you to your airport on time. Our staff will have a brief session with you before you depart. We hope that you had a wonderful time with us and we hope to see you in the future.

Once you arrive in Nepal, you will be picked by our representative and then transferred to the hotel. The trek will start from the hotel the very next day.
What to expect
The Bhairav Kunda tour is a recently opened trail so there is still a lot of exploring that can be done. You can see a variety of flora and fauna in these parts that range from small shrubs to huge pine trees. You will walk on trails that resemble Tibet’s dryness and on other parts, the greenery is bound to blow you away. The Bhairav Kunda is the epicenter of this lake and it has a bluish-green color to it. This religious lake enchants anyone who sees it.
